My simple Buttery Sprouts with Bacon are full of flavour and a great way to jazz up the humble sprout!
Although I have always loved brussels sprouts they seem to be at the receiving end of a lot of hate with so many people refusing to eat them. This recipe is a surefire way to get even the most extreme brussels sprouts hater in your life to actually enjoy them.
This is a really quick and simple recipe that uses just a handful of ingredients. Cooking the sprouts in butter rather than oil adds a lovely flavour to them and the combination of the bacon pieces and garlic work perfectly to create the ultimate savoury sprouts side dish that I guarantee will be your new favourite thing to eat.
I use meat free bacon slices that I cut into pieces for this recipe, however, in the past I have used shopbought lardons which work just as well. If you tend to avoid shopbought processed vegan meats you could try this with a plant based version, such as my Shiitake Mushroom Bacon or just skip this ingredient entirely. You could also just use the real thing if you are a meat eater.
I tend to prepare these sprouts by simply washing them and slicing them in half straight down the centre. I do not remove any of the outer leaves unless the sprouts are a little worse for wear, however, if you would prefer to then you can.
This side dish makes a great addition to warming winter meals such as my Mushroom & Chestnut Loaf, my Festive Stuffed Butternut Squash and, of course, these sprouts would work perfectly on your Christmas dinner. Why not try these sprouts as a side dish along with my Pistachio Topped Maple Glazed Carrots and my Rosemary Hasselback Potatoes.
Alternatively, you could use this recipe as the base for a light lunch and try it with some meat free chicken pieces and some broccoli florets thrown in too to add extra volume and variety.
If you enjoy this Buttery Sprouts with Bacon recipe and are looking for another way to jazz up brussels sprouts you might want to try my Cranberry & Pistachio Sprouts or my Air Fryer Sprouts recipe which you can find here.
